Above and Below Solitaire is a challenging patience game played with two standard decks of cards. Your main goal is to move every card onto the foundation piles by carefully building sequences that start just above or below a special indicator card.
How to Play Above and Below Solitaire
At the beginning of each round, a single card is placed face-up as the indicator. You will need to construct eight foundation piles based on this card. Four piles are built upward in suit order, starting one rank higher than the indicator and wrapping around from Ace to King. The other four are built downward, beginning one rank lower and wrapping from King to Ace.
You draw cards from the stock one at a time into the waste pile. When a card appears that matches the indicator's rank, you can send it directly to the indicator pile. The top card of the waste can be moved to any foundation or one of the four tableau piles. Tableau cards are stacked in suit order and can go either up or down; however, you may only transfer one card at a time from these piles. Once the stock is empty, the waste can be reshuffled into a new stock for another pass. Moving cards between foundation piles is permitted, which can help improve your layout.
Main Gameplay
The game focuses on efficient card routing. You must balance the stock, waste, and tableau to free up the right cards for your foundations. Every card you successfully place on a foundation counts toward your score, and your final rank depends on how many you manage to clear from the deck.
Tips for Players
Always watch for the indicator's rank to use the direct transfer rule. Use the ability to move cards between foundation piles to keep your suits balanced, and be ready to cycle the waste whenever the stock runs out to reach the cards you still need.
